Very famous artist from Mechelen. Belgian painter. He studied at the Sint-Lucas in Oostakker. He started off as an apprentice in Ghent in sculpture studios, at a painting restorer and at a smithy. During his military service, he took courses in Mechelen at the evening school of the Academy for the Fine Arts, under supervision of director/artist Willem Rogier. He continued his studies until 1907 and settled as an artist at the Brusselsesteenweg 28. In Mechelen, he became acquainted with Rik Wouters, and during WWI he took part in the exhibitions of the art circle “Doe stil voort”. He was first influenced by Eugène Laermans and Jakob Smits, later by the futurists. Initially, he assimilates neo-impressionism, then fauvism and cubism (1918-1919). He's friends with Alfred Ost, Felix De Boeck. He has exhibited in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Berlin, Bern, Budapest, Florence, Geneva and Paris. On 12.08.1958 prof. Joos Florquin visited De Troyer in Mechelen with the B.R.T. programme “Ten huize van”. Works by the artist can be found in museums in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Mechelen and Ostend.
