A captivating carved bone sculpture carved by the Lega in Congo. Objects related to the Bwami served as educational support for different stories and tales conveying the moral code. They were also objects of prestige for their owner.
The Lega artists masterfully created works that fulfilled the requirements of the Bwami patron, fit perfectly within its belief, and yet were artistically unique.
This piece is hand-carved of bone with cowrie shells on the top. The large figure is probably a protector/ ancestor related to the two smaller figures (male and female).
