Roy Lichtenstein was one of the most influential and innovative artists of the second half of the 20th century. He is identified with Pop Art, a movement that helped originate, and his first fully achieved paintings were based on comic book images and advertisements and were depicted in a style that mimicked the crude printing processes of newspaper reproduction. These paintings revitalized the American art scene and altered the history of modern art.
