1 folio volume (347 x 245 mm), period soft vellum binding, smooth mute spine, traces of laces, heraldic bookplate of Jean Bigot, stamps of the bishopric of Moulins on the title page, author's manuscript ex-dono to Jean Bigot, title in red and black adorned with the mark of P. Rocolet engraved in intaglio, -180--11- pages (complete). Some foxing, the frontispiece was erroneously placed between pages 4 and 5 and the plate that was supposed to between pages 18 and 21 was bound behind page 162. In good condition.
Work illustrated with a lovely frontispiece and 15 figures by Abraham Bosse, engraved by Tavernier and Firens showing the triumphal arches and the chariots used. The frontispiece depicts the provost of merchants and the aldermen of Paris haranguing King Louis XIII on his return from La Rochelle.
A lovely celebratory book intended to celebrate the victorious entry of King Louis XIII into the city of Paris after his victory at the siege of La Rochelle.
Copy of Jean Bigot (1588-1645), a famous Norman bibliophile and scholar who owned one of the most prized libraries among scholars in the 17th century. He was notably friends with the historian André Duchesne and the genealogist Pierre d'Hozier.
